Hey, wonderlass!
If it's any consolation, most pros seem to hate drawing lower legs and feet. At almost any opportunity, the'll crop them out of panel, cover them with fog/smoke, have them hidden behind the knee, obscure them with furnature, or draw them cartoony looking.
I find it helps to use an action figure as a modle to help with perpective and proportion.
I don't like the grid method. I always mess it up. I like tracing paper cause it's easy to see though. All three are on canvas.
'BEAMIE that absolutely rocks!
VERY nice! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif

ELWING that would be TOO COOL FOR WORDS! Thank you for the kind words my friend. Being a HUUUUUGE fan of your work (Back when ya 1st started posting in the WizWorld thread, I took a tour through ELFWOOD!) that means a lot. Ditto about wishing I had more time. I Still havent had a chance to get back to that Ultimate sketch! Everyone in here is inspiring me though, so I should get more done this weekend!
GARBLE that is SOO true! I remember reading somewhere that you can tell the quality comic artists by how well they draw hands and bare feet! Case in point check out the hands and feet of Davis, Pacheco, John Buscema, and Adam Hughes!
BAMF!

IMO, the best thing about posting art here is that everyone is supportive and nice. It's such a relief after doing critiques in art school where everyone is ready to pull you down with negative comments.
So, thanks guys. This place is the best. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

To see selected pages from my sketchbook, go here: http://moosuittwo.homestead.com/Sketchbookstuff.html
Some of it is for Wonderlass and her leg problem, and the rest of it is just so you can see that my sketchbook is a confused and crammed thing. Wonderlass, the first drawing is the one that I drew for you. It's not much, but. . . *shrug*
And BAMF, have you worked any more on that wonderful sketch at the beginning of this thread?

Essence of Elf: "BAMF- Kick it up a notch!"

WOW Blueelfears! you're good! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif but can you answer me this question, some of them look similer to gargoyles, are they?
No, Blueflame. They aren't gargoyles. But I do remember that show. Actually explaining what they are would take a while and probably bore you to death. Unless you actually want to know.
Thanks, guys. I try. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I would like to somehow make a living through art, but that's about as likely as . . . uh, I can't think of anything witty now. First day of the quarter, and my brain is fried.

Essence of Elf: "BAMF- Kick it up a notch!"
Wow, y'all are so good... *_* I have definite trouble with drawing anything realistic or American comic book style - anything I do is much more influenced by the anime that I watch, which tend to have a lot of willowy, pretty young men in them... *coughs* Anyway.
So I wish I could do more, but its really hard for me to draw NC and make him look like he should... "He's athletic, Jyuu, stop drawing him like an emaciated goth-boy." ;_;
Jyuu-chan http://boomoo.cjb.net - yes, Jyuu has a site too

"Love makes you want to stab people? That's not love. That's brain damage."
Ditto, about enjoying the finished stuff more FASHEEM!
SO few of my pieces are completely finished...It's almost like my entire Art pad is sketches.
(I am trying to get better at completely finishing my stuff, though)
And speaking of which I havent finished KC's Ultimate art yet BLUE ELFIE, WONDERLASS! ( Slacker BAMF! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/tongue.gif ) I'm actually home for the rest of the day so i'm going to see about getting more of it done. BTW BLUEELFEARS Loved the peak at your sketchbook! Looking at your work has put me in a HUUGE drawing mood...going to get cracking on finishing my sketch. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
JYUU-CHAN I just had a blast cruising through your site! Well done! (I especially liked the pics from your Sakuracon adventure! Road trips with good buds are the best!)
BAMF!
Jyuu!! Where you been?! Let's see some of that NC as emaciated Goth boy stuff... unless it's just sketches. No offense to everyone who has posted rough stuff but as an uncivilized not artist ( http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif ) I can't really get much out of it. I like to see the finished product with all the pretty colours and nice solid lines but the technical stuff... http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/confused.gif
[This message has been edited by Fasheem (edited March 28, 2001).]
Well, then I guess you won't be seeing any of my stuff anytime soon, Fasheem... Everything I do stays in the preliminary sketch or fleshed-out-sketch-but-not-yet-inked stage. I don't have the talent to finish a picture to my satisfaction and I haven't the least idea how to color anything. That one pic I posted a while back is about as good as it gets. *shrugs* So in my sketchbook my sketchings will stay...
BTW, I've been mostly lurking as I get used to my new job. ^_^ Plus I just haven't had anything to say...
Thanks Bamf! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif It was a real blast - and its happening again next month! Ah, conventions... so expensive, but so fun...
And I really need to start updating the site again...
Jyuu-chan
(Hard to update with art when scanner doesn't work... *grr*)

"Love makes you want to stab people? That's not love. That's brain damage."
I did make the attempt to check your page, Jyuu, but I got so many Geocities error messages my Internet connection shut down. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/mad.gif Geocities. How I hate it! I'll try again sometime today.
http://www.angelfire.com/yt/reverie/...htcrawler.html
It took me a while to do this, but it's pretty much "finished."

so what do i do now?

Shiest! Sorry about that, i typed it wrong.
It should work now.
Cool! Garble, do you mind if I use that uniform for another Nightcrawler sculpture (if I ever get around to it)? I'd love to make it.
BTW, that other one I made is mostly finished, except for a little bit of painting touchups. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/frown.gif

Wow, Elfie and Garbs, I am in awe of your talents. I alas, am more of an inker type, and I can color well...but my sketching needs WORK. I need to practice, it's just a matter of making the time.
*sigh*
Keep the art a'rollin' guys! And Elfie, I can't wait to see that sculpture! BTW, I really like that sketch on the page with the moosuit, with Kurt twisting around and giving the thumbs up.
http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
Thanks guys!
BlueElfEars, you can certainly use that costume to make a scupture, if and only IF you show your sculptures here. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/wink.gif
Your Nightkiddo pics ROCK, BTW!
I'm really curious about that cow-suit thing.
You've got a deal, Garble.
The one is almost done. He needs his eyes touched up and his face touched up. Then I will take pics and put them up. He's cute but creepy. The pics might not take well because I used oil paint on his face, and it looks kinda fuzzy and sucks up all the light.
What's so interesting about the moosuit? Just wondering.
------------------
Essence of Elf: "BAMF- Kick it up a notch!"
Okay guys, this is a watercolor that BlueElfEars is working on of Rei and Kurt, we were wondering if any of you could help with back ground ideas. http://moosuittwo.homestead.com/BeamieONE.html
Perhaps you could put them on a river bank next to a waterfall. (Okay, BAD idea).
OR
You could just put them posing within the X-mansion or within its bellows... something like that. Could be something simple, but colorful.
Have fun! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/smile.gif
------------------
Always watching from the shadows...
BLUE ELFIE that is coming out very nicely!
I agree with HIDDEN CRAWLER...somewhere in the X-mansion would be cool. (An empty Danger room perhaps?) Or maybe even somewhere on the Mansion grounds. (with the Moon and stars somewhere in the background?)
Bottom line GARBS? Your costume design KICKS A@@! Dude you should post the link over at Millar's X-Fan Ultimate Forum...Fandoms' Fuzzy-fans would go crazy over that!
BAMF!
Oooh, I just got a wicked evil idea, and I blame you two for it. How about a river bank with a waterfall at night? YEAH! Do that one BlueElf. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I like that one.
You're sure, Beamie? Just need a confirmation here. Once it's started, it's not coming out.
------------------
Essence of Elf: "BAMF- Kick it up a notch!"
YEAH! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif DO IT! With a moon (cresent maybe?) and stars.
Due to popular demand and my lack of money for film, I experimented with my sculpture and the scanner. To view the results, go here:
http://moosuittwo.homestead.com/NCSculpture.html
The uniform is painted on with acrylic and the face and (broken) tail are oil.

(In my best SMURF voice..)
"OooOOhh..AaaAaHhh!"
That is cool BLUE ELFIE! http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif I've always wanted to try my hand at sculpting. How long did it take you from start to finish?
BAMF!
Oh gosh, BAMF. I'm not sure. For the actual sculpting, the clay was really damp, so he needed to dry out a bit before I could really work on him.
Two weeks of sculpting time
Two weeks of drying time
Three days of firing
Two days to paint (but the oil paint took a week to dry)
Did I answer your question well enough?
------------------
Essence of Elf: "BAMF- Kick it up a notch!"
WoW, ya sure did BLUE ELFIE! Geez, that's almost 3 weeks start to finish... http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/eek.gif
I'm guessing that the time it takes would kinda vary depending on what type of clay you use?
BAMF!
awwww this was my fav. thread for awhile ...wheres all the action, jackson???
c'mon when do we get to see the final work, Bamf??

~*WONDERLASS*~
I suppose it would dry differently if it was different clay, but we make our own clay and we don't really mess with the recipe. You really want to know your clay body so you can control the drying time. Too fast, and it cracks.
Time also depends on how thick and big a piece is. I made a really big one last summer that took nearly two months to finish and one to dry. It exploded in the kiln, but it's fixable. I just have to get my arse in gear and do it.
------------------
Essence of Elf: "BAMF- Kick it up a notch!"
LMAO! I love you guys! O.K buddies I'm going to get cracking and finish it this weekend .. http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif ( I hope! :P )
BAMF!
Hey, great stuff, Blue! Kudos for the patience! (Mine would probably be dust by my ineptness). http://www.hostboard.com/ubb/biggrin.gif
